The 2005 Black History Month Celebration of Black History, Women and Labor
was a two-day event that took place in Tacoma, WA at the Pantages Theatre
February 21st and 22nd and was be the largest event of its kind in the
nation this year. You can watch each speaker individually via our MUSICA webcast.
Monday the 21st was the premier of the "Black Composers" film
featuring Quincy Jones, Isaac Hayes and more along with a live jazz legends
performance featuring Hubert Laws, Todd Cochran and Bennie Maupin. There
was also a tribute to the late Ossie Davis in film music and words.
Tuesday February 22nd was the Main event. Opening
remarks by United States Senator Maria Cantwell, keynote speakers included
Chuck D rapper/activist, live video feed from United States Senator Barack
Obama, Danny Glover actor/activist, Arianna Huffington author/activist,
Naomi Tutu international peace activist, Dominique Dawes Olympic Gold
medalist/President of the Womens Sports Foundation and Bill Fletcher CEO
of TransAfrica Forum. Master of Ceremonies was Clear Channel Community
Affairs Director/Host of KUBE 93's StreetBeat Tony B.
