King County Executive Ron Sims
King County Executive Ron Sims has built his career in public service around the progressive principles of social justice, good government and environmental stewardship. He has a national reputation for boldness and vision, and is a champion of reforming government processes to better serve the people of the dynamic, forward-thinking Puget Sound region. His regional public/private partnership to reform health care through the Puget Sound Health Alliance is seen as a national model. And the King County employee health initiative, which ties participation in wellness activities to out-of-pocket expense levels, is designed to cut escalating health care costs by tens of millions of dollars within five years.
Born in Spokane, Washington in 1948, Ron marched alongside his politically active parents in the struggle for racial equality, and honed a passion for civil rights issues that has been a guidepost throughout his political career. In 1996 Ron was appointed King County Executive after then-Executive Gary Locke was elected governor. Easily winning election the following year, Sims was reelected by wide margins in 2001 and 2005.
As Executive, he is charged with overseeing the 13th largest county in the nation. It includes the city of Seattle, and with an overall population of 1.8 million, King County is home to about 30 percent of Washington state's population and alone accounts for more than 40 percent of the state's jobs. The County government has a workforce of over 13,000 and an annual budget of $4.4 billion.
Dr. Maxine Hayes
Maxine Hayes has dedicated her life to teaching and public service, focusing her efforts on disease prevention. "We could save time and work more efficiently in health care if we put more focus on actually preventing diseases, rather than only treating them."
As the state’s top public health doctor, her role includes advising the governor and the secretary of health on issues ranging from health promotion and chronic disease prevention, to emergency response, including pandemic influenza preparedness. She also works closely with the medical community, local health departments and community groups.
She earned a Master of Public Health degree at Harvard University. While at Harvard, Dr. Hayes also worked as a consultant to Project COPE, a program sponsored by the University of Massachusetts at Worcester to offer pediatric health care information to mothers of infants born in prison. Dr. Hayes has worked for the Washington State Department of Health since 1988 and was appointed State Health Officer in 1988. She works closely with local health officials and the medical community statewide, and advises the governor and the state's Secretary of Health on health emergency responses, prevention of childhood diseases, and other public health issues.

Dr. Ben Danielson
A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Danielson completed his medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, a community clinic of Children’s Hospital that provides medical, dental, and mental health services for a culturally diverse, predominantly low-income patient population.
Dr. Danielson has been honored for his dedication to increasing diversity within the medical profession, receiving the Charlie Garcia Distinguished Faculty Award for Mentorship in 2004, and currently works to increase diversity within the Pediatric Residency Program by serving on the UW School of Medicine Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMCA) Diversity Board.
