Why: MUSICA Entertainment and Columbia City Theater are proud to present an event that provides our communities with the opportunity to spend time with their children in a safe, comfortable, and fun learning environment.
MUSICA Entertainment, LLC is committed to the outcomes of increased awareness of the importance of early learning, parental involvement, school readiness and the acknowledgement and use of community services available in support of those initiatives.
MUSICA Entertainment takes a proactive approach to creating awareness of early education amongst youth!
Musica Entertainment, in cooperation with the Pulse Project and the Columbia City Theatre, will be producing a student made film which will document all events surrounding the Holiday Kids Fair and chronicle the students (ages 14 - 19) experiences as they begin to understand what early learning is while filming the Holiday Kids Fair. This innovative educational DVD will intertwine the youths experiences garnered about early education while filming the project, and highlight the Holiday Kids Fair as it happens. We'll be filming the youth filmmakers! The completed DVD of BOTH stories will be made available to child care organizations, schools, libraries, early learning stakeholders as well as the public at large.
The youth filmmakers will interview vendors, parents, performers, kids and guest speakers at the Holiday Kids Fair. Prior to the event, the student filmmakers will interview child development and education experts, researchers and administrators. These interviews will be broadcast during the "Live" webcast of the Holiday Kids Fair and incorporated into the final DVD project.
* Participating vendors in Columbia City will also have pamphlets on school readiness, early education and parenting.
The Holiday Kids Fair will be webcast "live" locally, nationally and internationally. We encourage those vested in early learning to organize watching parties.
For more information on this event please contact Emoree Martin by e-mail at Emoreem@musicaentertainment.org or 425 373-6244.

StreetBeat: Bill Cosby Talks With Tony B
Dr. William H. "Bill" Cosby speaks exclusively with Tony B about controversial comments he made regarding Hip Hop and personal responsibility in lower economic black communities!
This Sunday morning October 26th, 2008
Tony B, host of“StreetBeat” on KUBE 93 fm
Tony B talks with comedian, actor, television producer and activist Bill Cosby. Cosby recently released a "Hip Hop" CD entitled "The Cosnarati: State of Emergency." Cosby caused a fire storm of national controversy in 2004 when he made public remarks critical of African Americans who put higher priorities on sports, fashion, and "acting hard" than on education, self-respect, and self-improvement. Dr. Cosby speaks candidly with Tony B about:
“…that is why it is so important to vote. Or you submit to the edict of others.”
Last chance to register youth voter registration drive
Where: Seattle City Hall – 600 4th Avenue – downtown Seattle, Washington
When: Saturday October 4th, 2008
Time: 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm
MUSICA Entertainment is producing a non-partisan pop culture youth voter registration drive at City Hall in Seattle on Saturday October 4th, 2008, the last day to register to vote in the national and local elections. We are excited to have film, television and sports celebrities along with indie rock bands, hip hop groups, DJ's and other eclectic music stylists to come down, speak and/or perform and support voter education.
Advocates on ALL sides of the issues will be there along with candidates to help create an open forum for dialogue to assist with helping voters make informed decisions. King County Elections will be on hand to register voters and will also bring the accessible voting unit which was introduced at every polling place in 2006. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the machine and cast a test ballot. They provide large, high contrast, bilingual text, an audio ballot option, touch screen operation, adjustable height, and a numeric keypad.
This family friendly non-partisan event also includes a “kid’s zone” where youth of all ages will be able to exercise their future voting rights with a unique kids ballot, and write their dreams for the future on a 10 foot postcard which will be displayed and made available to all local and national candidates. Kids will also receive FREE voting related coloring books.
King County Elections will have voter registration forms in English, Chinese, Spanish, Cambodian, Korean, Laotian, Russian, and Vietnamese.
Seattle City Council member Bruce Harrell today announced his support for this public effort encouraging youth to register to vote by the October 4, 2008. The Registration Drive will be held at Seattle City Hall from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. According to representatives from King County Records Elections, "To be eligible to vote you must be registered to vote at least 30 days in advance of the November 4, 2008, general election."
New applications must be postmarked by the 30-day cutoff or it will not become effective until after the election. If you miss the 30-day deadline and are new to the state, you can still sign up in time for the election, but you must register in person at the King County Elections Office no later than 15 days before the election.
* MUSICA Entertainment is producing the youth voter registration drive. MUSICA Entertainment has placed a high priority on promoting voter registration among young people 18-25 in a quality community-based non-partisan outreach campaign. Among the strategies to accomplish this task is providing a fun, safe, environment to assist with voter registration while finding solutions to barriers that may keep folks from voting. This includes disseminating information to help young people become knowledgeable, informed voters.

What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive order. However, with the surrender of General Lee in April of 1865, and the arrival of General Granger’s regiment, the forces were finally strong enough to influence and overcome the resistance.
Juneteenth Celebration in Austin, Texas
June 19, 1900
Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today.
HAPPY JUNETEENTH FROM MUSICA ENTERTAINMENT!
Thank you for your interest in furthering open dialogue and education through music.
